We employ two key areas of manufacture, contact moulding and closed mould which we use according to the technical and commercial requirements of the products and the customer.
CONTACT MOULDING (CM) is the mainprocess used throughout the world. It allows the manufacturer to produce goods in relatively short or intermittent runs and with ciomparatively low pattern and tool costs. We use CM to produce most of our building components and items for the water and sewage treatment. Here weight is important but not crucial and the reverse surface not relevant to the appearance or performance of the end application.
CLOSED MOULD. The key purposes of closed mould processing are to control all surface finishes, weight distribution, variations in thickness and to permit the use of built-in fixings. Hence components such as road and rail vehicle parts, street light hoods and roof trims are accurately made. Our main closed mould process is RTM (resin transfer moulding) which we enhance with VARI (vacuum assisted resin injection).
Both need accurate and durable multi part moulds and these have to be stable under pressure and require care in handling. Naturally tool making is more complex and time consuming but, once set up, moulds will make in excess of 8000 components before the need for replacement. Product throughput is much quicker than is possible with other processes and typically will be increased by 1000 percent against with contact moulding.
